About Us
How We Work
Investing in organisations and projects
We work with our local partners by:
- building operational infrastructure;
- assisting with project financing;
- assisting with communication and fundraising; and
- providing strategic advice.
What we look for
We seek committed local partners with demonstrable experience and expertise, effective capacity and a proven tack record in our area of interest.
We seek projects that are replicable and sustainable, providing the potential to reach a wider audience with the goal that one success should bring others.
We expect that with any of our local partners and projects there should be an ability to leverage grants and local resources to attract additional funding or other support.
We firmly believe that organizations and projects we support should be locally based and that local communities should play a role in program development and implementation wherever possible.
We look for commitment from partner organizations to work toward building a stronger civic society through developing local capacity.
We require that our local partners operate transparently, in an effective and open manner.
Partners investing with us
We provide access to philanthropic projects that focus on 'children and youth at risk' as well as environmental protection in Asia. Specifically, we:
- identify investment opportunities that will have a significant social or environmental impact;
- work to guarantee the quality and effectiveness of a project, an organization and its programs and
- ensure all necessary due diligence is completed prior to investment as well as provide project monitoring post-investment.
We believe that partners choosing to fund with us should consider their donation an 'investment' with a social, rather than a financial, return. This implies the same sort of due diligence and risk assessment that would be expected for an investment with an economic return.
The Foundation has been granted tax exempt status under Section 88 of the Hong Kong Government Inland Revenue Ordinance. As such, we have charitable status and funds invested in our projects are eligible for tax exemption in relation to Hong Kong Personal Assessment, Salaries Tax and Profits Tax. We are applying for SOI(C) (3) status in the U.S.
Applying due diligence
Before funding or supporting an organization we :
- spend time with the organization and participate in its activities;
- work with the beneficiary to identify gaps in service and to develop an effective strategy;
- seek references from other sources, including former and current donors where we do not have a direct and long-term knowledge of the beneficiary;
- assess the existence of similar projects in the area in order to avoid duplicating existing programs run by other organizations;
- complete accurate due diligence before making any investment.
In other words, we will invest socially in the same way we invest financially - minimizing and managing risk.
