The Long Road Home, Community Centre & Playground, Cambodia
ADM Capital Foundation in partnership with Susanna Thornton helped M'Lop Tapang build a covered sports facility and playground adjacent to Sihanoukville's central market for the community's marginalized children.
Previously, there was a huge lack of covered play space for children, who are literally wet for the six months of the year it rains in Sihanoukville. There is no similar community centre anywhere else in Cambodia.
The Foundation bought land for the project and Susanna raised the funds necessary to build the facility by cycling from Hong Kong to the U.K. www.thelongroadhome.org.
Status
In April 2007 the sports centre opened for the benefit of all kids in Sihanoukville, providing a safe environment and great facilities for them to learn, play, have access to food and healthcare and importantly just "be children" away from the influences of sex tourism, drugs and poverty.
