2020: Significant hardship and profound change

In 2020, we marked 14 years since ADMCF’s launch and with this, our latest Annual Report, we detail our work over the year and the support received by so many of you. This has not been a usual time, however, and we capture in this Annual Report pandemic, significant hardship and profound change globally as shown through our programs.
But although 2020 was a year of loss and economic turmoil, it was also one of new beginnings, an understanding that change we previously believed impossible is now clearly possible and can be undertaken with speed, when desired.
Who imagined prior to 2020 that our itinerant lifestyles would be replaced by staycations and Zoom calls? That investors would turn their focus squarely to sustainability amid indications that Environmental and Social (E&S) considerations were significant risk factors, led by climate change, biodiversity loss and inequality.
In 2020, we clearly saw the inter-related nature of our planetary threats identified by science. The threats to human and animal health from wildlife trade and habitat loss came into clear focus. Action accelerated on climate change, with calls for governments to focus on building resilience and companies to disclose their exposure to climate risk.
For ADMCF it was, as for many, a moment of reflection and adjustment, it was a year made particularly challenging as it followed from the previous year’s political turmoil in Hong Kong.
These moments of difficulty, we believe, will expand our impact and commitment to engage in ways we previously thought might take years.
As always, our work would not be possible without you and for that, many thanks.
