The HKMPA developed holistic and integrated marine initiatives and formulated recommendations and identified 2 priority foci which members regarded as the most critical. It’s top priority is to advocate for a larger coverage of Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) in Hong Kong, and our second focus is to tackle the lack of public awareness, namely, insufficient community participation, poor knowledge of sustainable practices and gaps in the formal school curriculum. Thus, the HKMPA will reach out to engage the public to make them aware of the urgency and necessity in protecting our ocean.

As a multi-stakeholder integrated platform, the HKMPA aims to empower the community to enhance and create a more sustainable marine environment in Hong Kong. The HKMPA is committed to:
Preserve Hong Kong Waters – To influence local marine policies to include a wider coverage of Marine Protected Areas as identified by the platform. Enhance Public Awareness – to engage the public to build awareness on marine sustainability and improve knowledge on marine conservation.
