An amendment to include the crime in Hong Kong’s Serious Crime Ordinance (OSCO), which EIA has been campaigning for along with others, has just been passed by the Legislative Council.

Hong Kong’s legislature passed an amendment on Wednesday to include the illegal wildlife trade in the Organised and Serious Crimes Ordinance, allowing the authorities greater investigative powers.

The Organised and Serious Crimes Ordinance Cap 455 was amended to define smuggling of wildlife as organised and serious crime.  Associate Professor Amanda Whitfort has worked for over 7 years to bring about this amendment.
