Webinar: International Online Workshop on the Use of Fish Maws – Implications for Species, Fisheries, People and Sustainability

Fish maws (swim bladders) have been used in various products for centuries including food, isinglass (used in brewing and winemaking) and cosmetics, amongst others. Whilst the full use of all parts of harvested fish is to be encouraged, the high prices paid can increase demand, increasing pressure on the supply fisheries and these can undermine fisheries management, where management is in place.
This 3-session workshop (taking place 21st, 22nd and 23rd of March at 19-22 pm AEST) seeks to develop a better understanding of the usage and trade in fish maws. Exploring the implications for supply fisheries, status of the species utilised, impacts of fishing, implications for fishing communities and fisheries management.
